Reading II
There was an old stone house on Bill’s Street. It was big and empty. There were many trees around it. One day, Bill saw a light in that house. But his friend Peter didn’t believe. So they went to look at it.
When they arrived there, they couldn’t open the gate, and the fence was high. Peter wanted to go home, but Bill asked Peter to go with him. They climbed a tree and jumped over the fence. The grass in the yard was high. Peter was afraid. Again he wanted to go home. Bill didn’t agree. They decided to go inside. But they couldn’t get into the house, because the windows were locked. Peter wanted to go home once more. He thought there were ghosts there. But he was afraid to go back alone. So they tried to open the door, it wasn’t locked.
They walked inside. It was quiet. Suddenly they heard a sound from the door. Bill ran to the door and it was closed. They heard the wind outside. Peter was afraid, so was Bill. But he didn’t want Peter to know it. He went upstairs. Peter went with him. They went into the room in which Bill saw the light. Then they heard somebody said, “Who are you? What are you doing?”. The boys could neither speak nor move. They wondered who was in the house with them.
